Augavella, Orujos y Licores is firmly rooted in the tradition of its founder, Juan Manuel Méndez Otero, a pioneer since the middle of the last century in the world of wine, cider, and aguardiente.
As early as the 1950’s, my father, founder of Bodegas Penouzos de Chantada, was in charge of distilling marcs for the brothers Quintimil de Castoira, true master distillers. They would bring their portable stills that were directly heated by a fire of oak wood that my father provided in the proper size and perfect dryness.
Although the distilling process took several days, they ate and slept next to the still without taking their attention away from the precious elixir for even a second… They were heroes! … they never made an error, never slipped up with a single sip.
Augavella continues the tradition.
